What's Next for Rigid Digit?

Rigid Digit has found a lovely group of regulars, and that has us wondering what comes next. Here are the ideas we keep coming back to. None of them are decided, and that's where you come in.

Dream big: NYT Games or Netflix

The New York Times retired Digits in August 2023, and nothing has quite filled the gap since. Being part of a puzzle collection like NYT Games would put Rigid Digit in front of far more people. Netflix, smart TVs and game consoles all have puzzle games now too, and a daily numbers puzzle the whole family shouts answers at from the couch sounds like a lot of fun. These places choose their games carefully, so this is more of a dream than a plan, but there's no harm in saying it out loud.

Proper phone apps

You can already add Rigid Digit to your home screen straight from your browser. A real app in the App Store and Google Play would be easier to find, and could bring extras like a gentle daily reminder. Apps take real work to build and keep up, so we'd only do it if people would actually use them.

A version for schools

A stripped-back Rigid Digit that school networks would happily let through, made for a classroom rather than a phone. Tui's school already shared it for their Mathathon, which got us thinking about what a version built for teachers and kids could look like.

Keep it just as it is

Free, in your browser, with fresh puzzles every day. If that's all you want from Rigid Digit, that's a perfectly good answer too.
